From very rustic beginnings, we're building a sanctuary under nature's guidance.
Only 20kms from its source, we treasure this above all else. It runs mostly all year. Take a swim in the crystal clear waters,
We have different areas for pitching tents including riverside, hilltop and within a young food forest. No matter where it is, you'll feel totally immersed in nature's beauty.
Living with animals is essential for healthy and speedy land regeneration. They provide us with so many benefits - food, pest control, more animals, compost and wholesome life lessons.
Children are welcome - just be aware that this is a project still in its infancy and care will be needed to make sure they know how to keep safe. Dogs that get on well with cats, chickens, and people are also welcome.
Proximity to the natural world has taught us that less is more, so we are going for a minimalist and comfortable lifestyle, including our accommodations. Every person will get to sleep on a comfortable mattress with blankets and sleeping bags if necessary. For colder nights there is a wood burning stove in the stone house or we make a camp fire.
July to August are hot and dry with temperatures anywhere between 32-42⁰C. Cooler nights of around 18⁰C. Luckily, we have the river and nice shady trees. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant times for the manual work. During winter, night-time temperatures can drop below freezing (on clear nights) and then rise again to be between 11-20⁰C during the days.
We put great care and love into the meals provided here at Tao Valley. Wherever possible, we source the ingredients from local farmers or grow our own. Seasonality is also important to us as we believe that eating what nature provides in season is the most congruent way to live with the natural order of things.
Nature has taught us that literally nothing goes to waste. In fact it is very important to manage our waste otherwise, nature will do it for us. Here at Tao Valley we have dry compost toilets, worm composting and (almost) wild showers. We do not allow harmful chemicals on the land or water since everything goes back into growing trees and vegetables or feeding our chickens.
